Chisinau International Airport (IATA Code: KIV, ICAO Code: LUKK) is the only international airport of the republic of Moldova, and one of the main entry points into the Republic of Moldova. The Airport is located in the vicinity of the city of Chisinau, on the road that ties the city the the southern region of Basarabia. It is the hub of operations for Air Moldova, Moldavian Airlines and Tandem Aero Moldova. History and Facilities: The first flight to Chisinau took place in 1926, on June 24th, from Bucharest via Galati and Iasi. The current terminal dates from the soviet era, being built in the 1970s. Thus, the style of the building is very similar with other small airports from the former Soviet Union - Only one terminal built to assure internal flights, without customs of security facilities. This drove the management of the airport to completely renovate the airport in 1999 and 2000.
